The lecture deals with the mathematical modeling and numerical solution of hypersonic flows, which are characterized by a Mach number greater than five. The particular mathematical model used consists of averaged Navier-Stokes equations completed with an explicit algebraic Reynolds stress model (EARSM) and an additional algebraic model of transition. The numerical solution is obtained using the finite volume method, which is based on a rotated-hybrid Riemann solver and an explicit, strong stability preserving (SSP) Runge-Kutta method.
