The excavation damage zone (EDZ) is one of the possible transport paths for the contaminants in the deep geological repositories of radioactive waste. Knowledge of its transport parameters, porosity and permeability in particular, is important for the safety analysis of the repository. We shall introduce a non-linear poroelastic model for the formation and evolution of EDZ. Experimental data from continual measurement of the pore pressure during excavation will be used to determine the statistical distribution of the model parameters using the Bayes inversion.
